Mass media and legal topics are one of the urgent problems in the modern information
space. This problem becomes even more urgent nowadays, when thanks to the Internet and social networks
“any information” became available to anybody.
The article describes a set of issues such as reflection of legal topics in traditional media, the
publications writing on this topic, genre, style, language, presentation of publications. If we take into
account that the population of our country is just over 18.3 million people, and of these about 4.5 citizens
turn to the last instance, i.e. court, for solving their problems, this of course shows that the increase in the
legal literacy of the population is not at the proper level. Society also receives information on legal literacy
mainly through the media. That is, the importance of training future journalists specializing in sphere
legislature is obvious. In our opinion, it is necessary to deepen the course of “Legal Basics of Journalism”
taught in the faculties of journalism in the country.
