Abstract

The article examines Dziga Vertov’s correspondence polemic with the provisions of
the manifesto «The Future of sound films. The application», analyzes both theoretical and practical
arguments for challenging the director's priority of asynchrony as a method of sound and image editing.
Based on the material of the history of the creation of the film «Enthusiasm. The Symphony of Donbass»,
the interaction of Vertov with engineer A.F. Shorin, the further fate of the picture, the conclusion is made
about the role of D.Vertov. In the process of transition of Soviet cinema to sound, the main aspects of the
uniqueness of the domestic experience of the formation of sound cinema are determined.
