Abstract

The proposed research is based on the thesis that sport is an indispensable factor for the formation
of a harmonious personality, the formation of national identity, and also serves for the development and
improvement of general physical qualities that a person needs for life. One of the priority directions of the
internal state policy of the Russian Federation is the development and popularization of physical culture and
sports as a way to improve the health of the nation. The media are the main element in the development and
maintenance of the work of the sports movement, in ensuring dialogue and cooperation between participants
in sports activities.
Local newspapers of the Rostov region, having gained experience in reflecting the events of the World Cup
in football, became the object of our attention. They occupy a special place in sports mass communications and
form a complete picture of the sports life of the region. Thanks to the publications of local media, residents and
guests of the Rostov region have the opportunity to get acquainted with certain achievements of athletes and
sports teams, learn more detailed information about the most popular and effective sports in their city.
In addition, the study describes the problems and landmarks of sports journalism, its personalities and
topics, its ratings and audience.
